Flu Clinics
 
Flu clinics are taking place on the following dates in Autumn 2017:
Saturday 14th October – Elton
Saturday 28th October – Helsby
Eligible patients (aged 65 and over or if you suffer from asthma, diabetes, kidney, liver or heart disease) can book their appointment by calling reception on 01928 723676.

Dr John Bassett – Foundation Year Two Doctor
 
Dr John Bassett who is a Foundation Year Two doctor started work at the practice at the beginning of August. Dr Bassett qualified from Lancaster University 12 months ago and has been working as a Year One Foundation ( junior ) doctor for 12 months at the Countess of Chester Hospital. Dr Bassett will be with us for four months working every day except Wednesday afternoons.

Care Quality Commission (CQC) Re-inspection - February 2017

The practice underwent a CQC re-inspection on 28th February 2017. Following this we are pleased to say we have been given an overall rating of Good. To read the report please click here

February 2017 - New GP Partner Dr Simon Mills

We are delighted to welcome Dr Simon Mills to the practice as our new GP Partner.  Dr Mills joins us from a GP practice in Liverpool and will be working eight sessions a week on a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Care Quality Commission (CQC) Inspection Report

On 31st August 2016 our practice underwent inspection by the Care Quality Commission. Following this we have been given an overall rating of Requires Improvement.

August 2016 - Meningitis ACWY Vaccination - All Students going to University

Students going to university or college for the first time are being offered the meningitis ACWY vaccination.  If you are planning on going to university, please make an appointment as soon as possible to have this done before you leave. You are more at risk of meningitis and septicaemia in the first weeks at university when you mix with lots of new people. However, even if you are not leaving for university you are still eligible for this vaccination so please contact the surgery to make an appointment.

June 2016 - eConsult: Contact a GP Online
 
We have introduced a new service called eConsult.  This allows patients who are currently registered at the practice to consult with a GP electronically, and offers alternatives to calling or coming into the surgery for common, more minor problems. Using this service you can also access self-help content, alternative options available to you e.g. pharmacy, symptom checkers, access to 111 clinicians and as already mentioned, the ability to consult remotely with a GP. June 2016 - Text Messaging Service
 
We have introduced a text messaging service for our patients. If we have your up to date mobile phone number you will receive confirmation of your appointment when it is made and a reminder approximately 24 hours before the appointment. We will also use the messaging service to contact patients about test results and other clinical campaigns that we are running. Please ensure we have your most up to date mobile phone number in our records and that you also notify us as a priority should that change in the future.

April 2016 - Physio First
 
Patients can now see a physiotherapist first instead of a GP. This is a new service and a physio can assess you and give you some advice on how to manage your problem or refer you for more care. Appointments are available at Helsby Health Centre and Princeway (Frodsham). For further information click here.

March 2016 - Extended Hours Service
 
If you are finding it difficult to arrange a routine GP or practice nurse appointment within practice opening hours due to other commitments such as work, there are appointments available at various locations and times in West Cheshire. Please click here for more details.

March 2016 - View Your Medical Records
 
In line with government guidelines we have enabled patients to view their medical records as part of the Patient Access services. This is currently only available to patients who are over 18. For more information please click here.

Meningitis ACWY Vaccination for all 17 and 18 Year Olds

Elton Surgery Waiting Room Blood Pressure Machine
 
A blood pressure machine has been installed in the Elton Surgery. Any patients who need to take their blood pressure for a GP appointment can now do this before their appointment. Just hand in the blood pressure reading slip at the beginning of the consultation and It will save time for both the GP and yourself.

Our practice philosophy encompasses a strong commitment towards patient and family centered care. The practice provides family medicine with excellent clinical care in a happy working environment where there is a strong ethos of team working.
 
The practice premises at Helsby are well situated in a recently extended purpose built health centre. There is a branch surgery at Elton which is 3 miles from the Helsby surgery. We are members of the West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (WCCCG).
 
The main surgery in Helsby is open 8.00am - 6.30pm Monday to Friday and Elton Surgery is open 8.00am - 12.30pm Monday to Friday.  In addition to routine booked appointments, the surgery also offers “on the day appointments”.
