It is very important that you take up the vaccine. It is being offered in response to a rapidly growing increase in cases of the meningococcal disease group W but also protects against meningococcal A, C, and Y.

 

If you are planning on going to university, please make an appointment as soon as possible before leaving for university. You are more at risk of meningitis and septicemia in the first weeks at university when you mix with lots of new people.

However, even if you are not leaving for university you are still eligible for this vaccination so please contact the surgery to make an appointment.
